Modern Day Interlude Part II - Vegan Cookbooks

For someone who loves collecting cookbooks and trying out new recipes, I was blind-sided when I developed a food allergy in April, 2012. Despite having NO allergies my entire life and used to eating everything and anything with no ill side effects, I was devastated when I was suddenly allergic to all mammal meat AND dairy products (I actually cried when I became violently ill after eating a casserole covered with Parmesan  cheese). Apparently a deer tick bite I received while doing yard work triggered my allergy - Alpha Gal - which  is a recently discovered allergy (although people have suffered from the allergy for years, no connection was made to ticks until 2009). Since it may be life long allergy - unless I somehow avoid future tick bites (pretty much impossible as deer visit my yard on a daily basis and I am constantly being bitten by one thing or another), I started searching out Vegan cookbooks. I am still able to eat fish & fowl, but also wanted to find new recipes that I could make without any animal products.

Sticky Fingers' Sweets - 100 Super-Secret Vegan Recipes, published in 2012. I made  a Carrot Cake with "cream cheese" frosting (replaced cream cheese with tofu cream cheese) for my last birthday and was delish! I plan on making a few cheesecake from the book for the holidays.

Vegan Planet, published in 2003. Book has 400 recipes and lots of info on replacing animal products with vegan options.

Linda's Kitchen - Simple and Inspiring Recipes for Meatless Meals, published in 1995. The  book is actually for vegetarians, but has great recipes which can be configured to a vegan palate.

Vegan Soul Kitchen - Fresh, Healthy, and Creative African-American Cuisine, published in 2009.
