Thrifty Finds - Community Cookbooks: As You Like It and St. Alban's

As You Like It, published in 1959 by the Seton Guild of St. Ann's Infant and Maternity Home in Washington, D.C. The home was founded prior to 1860 and in 1861 began an education and job-training program for single mothers to become the family breadwinner. In 1949 the home began offering affordable childcare for working mothers. The Home moved to its current location in Avondale, Maryland in 1962 and is still operating. Recipes were contributed by Guild members, celebrities, various Embassies in the D.C. area, restaurants and politicians' wives.

St. Alban's Cook Book, published in 1957. Recipes were compiled by the Rector's Aid of St. Alban's Church in Washington, D.C. (Both books were donated to the same thrift store - along with many others I purchased, by the same woman). Filled with great recipes from church ladies! I usually find two or three new recipes in church cookbooks to add to my menu rotation!
