New Purchase - Vintage Cookbooks (50% off!)

Visited my favorite thrift store for vintage cookbooks. They price fairly - usually the newer books are $1.99-3.99 with the vintage books starting at 59 cents to $1.59 . For some reason no one really buys any of the vintage books. Books I really want, I pay full price, but usually wait and return to buy when the books are on sale. I paid less than $3.00 for all of the following!

Time Life Food of the World Series - The Cooking of Spain and Portugal, published in 1975. I had a few other books in this series, but decided not to finish my collection, so I sold them at a yard sale. I bought this particular book since I lived and Spain and visited Portugal - LOVED the food in both countries.

Southern Living - Cooking for Company, published in 1985. Recipes and menus for all occasions, including weddings and sit down dinners (for 25!!).

The New Orleans Cookbook, published in 1972. Creole and Cajun cooking - again partial to the book since I attended college in Louisiana (hello Hammond!)  then lived in New Orleans for a few years after graduation.

The Auburn Cookbook, published in March, 1967. Published by the Auburn University Extension Service and sold for 50 cents a copy. Tips and recipes for all manner of cooking.

Cookbook Mania - Thrifty Buys #2

The last of the cookbooks I purchased today.

I have almost completed the Southern Heritage series with this purchase. I had to buy the books in a lot of 14 books (50 cents each), so I have a few duplicates that I will either give away or sell. To finish my collection I need just three books (Sea & Stream, Gift Receipts and Sporting Scene). Published between 1983-1985.

Cookbook Mania - Thrifty Buys

Did a quick pop-in at one thrift store today while running errands and walked out with 22 books! Here is the first round of cookbooks:

Bake it Easy - Bake Off Cookbook, published in 1974. The winning recipes were Chocolate Cherry Bars and Savory Crescent Chicken Sandwiches.

Favorite Recipes of Alabama Vocational Home Economics Teachers, published in 1980. This copy is the 6th edition and is chock full of recipes.

9th District Delights Cook Book, no publication date - probably from the early 1980's. It's either recipes complied from the 9th Congressional District or from the Georgia Federation of Women's Club, hard to say since both districts have changed in the past few years.

The International Cookbook, published in 1980. Recipes incorporate Campbell Soups and include recipes from Asia, Europe, Mexico, the Middle East and South America.

Home Cookin' with Dave's Mom, published in 1996. Lots of family photos in addition to recipes.

Farm Journal - Homemade Cookies, published in 1971. I already started browsing the book for new recipes for my Christmas baking.

Come on In!, published in 1993. Recipes from the Junior League of Jackson Mississippi. The book was only 99 cents (a bargain) since it is a teeny bit warped.

Southern Living - The Low Cost Cookbook, published in 1971. The book needed to complete my collection!

Vintage Cookbook Finds - Yard Sales

Since the yard sale season is winding down and no home game today (I live in a college town) there were 25+ sales in my area. Dropped by 8 sales before I called it a day. (My motto is 2-10-10: two hours, $10.00 spending limit or 10am - whichever occurs first - today I hit my spending limit first). I found the following cookbooks (plus lots of other vintage items):

1968 Mrs. Georgia Recipe Book. The winner was from Athens, Georgia.

What's Cookin' in Athens, published in 1968. Recipes Compiled by the Athens Jaycettes. Another local community cookbook from my town!

Petite Sweets, no publication date. Recipes compiled from the employees of  Rich's/Goldsmith.

Party Plans for Food & Games, published in 1966.  Printed by Swift's Premium Meats.
